A BRIEF TUTORIAL ON HOW MY
VIRTUAL REALITY PANORAMAS ARE CREATED
Rotating the tripod-mounted
camera a full 360 degrees, a series of photographs are taken
at regularly-spaced intervals.
I prefer cameras using film, since the image quality is
superior to digital cameras.
Using the Kaidan™
camera mounting system,
I am able to insure that the camera is perfectly level
in all planes, rotates around the nodal point of the lens
(thus preventing parallax distortion) and that the intervals
are suitable for the particular lens being used.
(For example, using a 20mm lens, 12 photographs will be
taken to complete the circle, each photograph being 30
degrees apart.)
The film is developed and
scanned; the resulting digital images are fed into the VR
Toolbox™ program, which stitches them into a
seamless panorama.
The panorama is enhanced and optimized using Adobe
Photoshop™ and then brought into the VR Toolbox™
and Quicktime™ programs to ready the panorama for
inclusion on a CD or website, or for transmission over the
internet.
